Underwater GoPro Specialist
 Principles of Underwater Photography

Cost: $150

Join our in-house photography educator, Jane Palmer as she reviews the principles of underwater photography.  This class will cover care of your equipment, strategies for successful exposure and composition underwater, strobe placement, and even dive etiquette for underwater photographers.

If you are planning to go on a dive trip with a new camera, then this class is a must!  Don’t risk damaging your equipment, or feeling frustrated because you don’t know how to set up your exposure or manage your strobes.  U/W photography should be fun, and it’s a great way to remember your dives, but it can hard to figure out without help.  We will help you learn about your gear and provide you with proven methods of getting a great shot!

This class is a great addition to our shop trips that highlight photography.  Jane is along on these trips to continue your photography education with short afternoon classes as well as help on the boat and even in the water.

Jane is an award winning landscape and underwater photographer, having studied with leaders in the industry over the last 10 years.  She has the honor of having won multiple awards in photography competitions and shares her enthusiasm for photography on her website janepalmerphotography.com. Check out some of her images and read her blog to get an idea of her teaching style.

You'll learn about:
• Care of your camera equipment
• Strategies for successful exposure and composition underwater
• Strobe placement
• Dive etiquette for underwater photographers

Prerequisites:
• PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)

• None. Course is lecture based.

 Lightroom

Cost: $200

Use Adobe Lightroom to organize and process your photos.

Before Lightroom... and After Lightroom:

You love to take photographs of trips or family events, but you have no way to organize them or make sure they are safely backed up. Or you take underwater photographs but wish you could make them more vibrant and exciting.

If you are ready to organize your photographs, have a backup plan in place and process your images to make them the best they can be, then this is the class for you!

Join our in-house photography educator, Jane Palmer, for a class that will introduce you to Lightroom. You will learn to set up your Lightroom library, how to process your photographs to make them the best they can be and then share them with friends on Facebook or via email.

• Must have an external hard drive

Course is lecture and hands on based. Students will receive an
ebook of helpful hints for you to reference after class is over.

 Photoshop Techniques for Underwater Photographs

Cost: $200

Don't be disappointed in your underwater shots! There is a way to make them go from to dull to dazzling using Adobe Photoshop!

If your underwater photographs are dull or have distracting elements that you wish you could remove, then this class will help you learn some techniques to improve your images.

Photoshop is a huge and daunting program and you can't learn it in one day. But there are some simple techniques that are easy to learn and can make a major difference in your finished photograph, especially in underwater images.

You'll cover the following:
• Learn how to remove distractions from your image, including backscatter.
• Learn how to bring attention to your subject with selective lighting.
• Learn some sharpening techniques to make your underwater critters stand out!

 Underwater GoPro Specialist

Cost: $250

In the Underwater GoPro Specialist course students will learn everything there is to know about shooting underwater photos and video with a GoPro action camera.

 

Course work will begin in the classroom with hands-on training of camera settings and features, care and maintenance of the underwater housing, lighting techniques, filters, lenses, and more.

 

Two dives will provide students with the opportunity to apply this training in a low risk environment with direct supervision and instruction. Finally, students will have the opportunity to learn how to edit their video using the desktop version of GoPro Quik, a simple, easy to learn software to import, edit, and share GoPro videos.

 

Taught by award winning professional filmmaker, Mike Johnson, the Underwater GoPro Specialist course is certain take your GoPro skills and understanding to the next level! Mike has been shooting, editing, and producing TV shows, commercials, web videos, documentaries, and much more for well over a decade, including a dive-themed web series with underwater scenes shot entirely on GoPro action cameras. Most recently, his short documentary, Oceanic Aliens, has screened at over 20 film festivals around the world, winning numerous awards and accolades.

This course will cover:
• GoPro camera settings and features
• Care & maintenance of your GoPro system
• Lighting techniques including filters & lenses.
• Editing your video using GoPro Quik
• Sharing your GoPro video with friends & family

Prerequisites:
• PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization) with a minimum of 20 logged dives; great buoyancy skills

Course Materials:
GoPro camera (any model) with underwater housing; laptop computer
