Cristina is a shark behaviorist and ecologist,active ocean and cave explorer, environmental conservationist, professional diver, speaker, writer, and photographer. She is an advanced cave diving, rebreather, and mixed gas instructor and Instructor Trainer.

Cristina works with sharks in the wild and has spearheaded the campaign that resulted in the complete protection of sharks in The Bahamas, and has conducted the exploration and surveys
of numerous new cave systems, which are now part of MPAs. Her work can be summarized in three words: Exploration, Education, Conservation.

A member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame and The Explorers Club, she is a firm believer in the power of education and dedicates her time to teaching both above and below the water. Cristina is the founder of the nonprofit People of the Water, which is organized to expand the distribution of training, education, and research related to ocean and environmental issues.
