In the PADI Open Water Diver course, your PADI Instructor takes you through the basics of learning how to scuba dive.This class is the first step toward earning your Open Water Diver certification. It includes the PADI eLearning code, coursework you complete at your own pace prior to the class weekend, and a weekend of class and pool work.
Already certified and want a refresher - PADI Reactivate
Prerequisites: A Medical Questionnaire must be completed by all participants. Some participants may require their Physician’s approval prior to any in-water activities. All paperwork is completed through your PADI account.
10 years old for Junior Open Water Diver and 15 years old for Open Water Diver. Good health, reasonable fitness and comfort in the water.
We offer several options for starting and completeing your certification
Planning to complete you Open Water Training Dives on vacation? Use the Referral Option (Class & Pool portion of the course only): Complete your knowledge development sessions (eLearning) and confined open water dives with Y-kiki Divers and then complete your open water training dives with another PADI dive center.
Full Course Option
Open Water Diver Class & Pool and Checkout Dives. With this package you will earn your Open Water Diver certification. Purchase both the Confined Water portion and the Open Water portion of the course.
If you completed your knowledge development and confined water training already you can purchase just the Open Water portion of the course.
Deluxe package
Add the Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty to your weekend at the quarry while completing your Open Water Diver certification and Save 20% on the specialty. Get more out of your investment at the quarry by completing this useful specialty.
Premium Package
Get the most out of your weekend and save $100! Add the Enriched Air Nitrox Diver and PADI AWARE specialtiy to your Deluxe Package to create the Premium Package. Get a jump start on your Master Scuba Diver rating. The Enriched Air Nitrox Diver specialty will be completed the same weekend as your Open Water and Peak Performace courses. The PADI AWARE specialty will be completed virtually - contact us to pick the date.
Executive Open Water Diver Option
We also offer an Executive Open Water Diver course for groups of 4 or more. This course is completed over 3 full days for those looking to get certified in a weekend.

Earning the Open Water Diver certification requires completion of the below modules.
Knowledge Development
Convenient online access to knowledge development course materials on PADi's eLearning platform using your computer or mobile device.- Complete eLearning when and where it's convenient for you prior to your pool training.
- Approximately 10-15 hours.
- Lifetime access to your eLearning materials.
Confined Water Dives
- Develop basic scuba skills and equipment handling techniques in a pool.
- Classes scheduled every weekend (barring select holidays).
- The weekend starts at 7:30am on Saturday at one of our shops.
- The 2 pool sessions are 12-5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
- You provide your own mask, snorkel, boots, and fins (students get a discount if buying all those items from Y-kiki Divers).
- Y-kiki Divers provides the rest of the required equipment.
Open Water Training Dives
Put it all together and apply your diving knowledge and skills while making four open water dives. If you complete your certification with Y-kiki Divers:
- We typically schedule checkout dives at Mermet Springs every weekend during the diving season (end of April through the end of October).
- We complete 3 dives on Saturday, starting at 8am - weather permitting. On Sunday we complete the reamining dive(s), again starting at 8am.
- You provide your own mask, snorkel, boots, and fins.
- Y-kiki Divers provides the rest of the required equipment.
To continue your adventure, consider the Advanced Open Water class and be sure and sign up to receive information on our Local Diving Adventures Group - more commonly known as the Fun Diving Club. It's an opportunity to join Y-kiki's experienced staff and other local divers diving at a nearby dive site. Diving makes better divers... so let's go diving!
Dry Suit Option: Don't let our colder water stop you from diving! Dive a Dry Suit, stay warm, dive often. Do all your training dives using one of our dry suits and become PADI Dry Suit certified the same weekend you do your Open Water Diver certification dives (additonal cost and pool training). Contact the shop to add this Specialty course certification which counts as one of five Specialty certifications required for Master Scuba Diver certification. Take the Master Scuba Diver Challenge!
Open Water Training Dives only: Completed your knowledge development and confined open water dives with another Dive Center and only need your four open water training dives? Call the shop to join one of our training dive weekends. Includes equipment rental (excluding mask, fins, snorkel and boots) and certification fees. An assessment session with an instructor is required.
The Open Water Training Dives are held every weekend at Mermet Springs from the end of April through the end of October.
