November 11, 2026 - Join us for an exciting Speaker Series event to hear Dr. Angel Yanagihara as she takes us beneath the surface to explore "The Science of the Sting"; the fascinating science behind jellyfish venom, the latest lifesaving first-aid techniques, and the groundbreaking research that is changing how divers and ocean enthusiasts respond to marine stings. Dr. Angel Yanagihara is an internationally recognized marine biochemist, scuba diver, and Director of the Pacific Cnidaria Research Lab at the University of Hawaii. An award-winning scientist, Fulbright Specialist, ARCS Hawaii Scientist of the Year, and Fellow of The Explorers Club, her pioneering research on box jellyfish and other venomous marine life has transformed diver safety and advanced marine science worldwide. Through decades of ocean exploration and groundbreaking discoveries, she has developed patented sting-treatment technologies used by divers, lifeguards, and first responders around the globe.
