Digital underwater photography has taken the diving world by storm, making it easier than ever to capture and share incredible underwater memories. With the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Course at Y-kiki Divers, you’ll learn how to photograph colorful marine life, unforgettable dive adventures, and fun moments with your dive buddies while building the skills to create stunning underwater images with confidence.
Prerequisites:
- PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water (or have a qualifying certification from another training organization)
- You can take the course as a snorkeler and receive a non-diving certification.
By registering below you are scheduling the Level 1 class & pool session. You and your instructor will arrange a date for the Level 2 session(s), or contact the shop.

Digital photography has revolutionized underwater imaging, making it easier than ever to capture stunning underwater scenes and instantly improve your results. This fun, hands-on course combines both Level 1 and Level 2 training to help you confidently shoot, edit, and share amazing underwater photos using modern digital camera systems. Throughout the course, you’ll learn practical photography techniques, camera setup, underwater lighting, composition, and digital workflow skills while gaining real-world experience in both confined and open water environments.
By choosing the Combined Course, students can earn both specialty certifications while enjoying a $50 savings compared to taking the courses separately. These certifications also count toward the prestigious Master Scuba Diver rating as two of the five required specialty certifications. It’s a fantastic opportunity to sharpen your skills, gain confidence underwater, and learn how to capture and share incredible diving memories through photography.
Level One Highlights
Your Level 1 training introduces the foundations of underwater photography in a relaxed and engaging environment. During the classroom and pool session, you will:
- Learn about underwater digital cameras and housing systems
- Understand the PADI SEA (Shoot, Examine & Adjust) method
- Practice underwater photography using available light
- Improve composition, focus, framing, and camera handling techniques
- Gain confidence photographing subjects underwater
Level 1 includes a classroom session, PADI SEA method, and confied water dive.
Level Two Highlights
Level 2 expands your creative possibilities and takes your underwater photography skills to the next level. During this advanced portion of the course, you will:
- Learn how to properly use underwater strobes and flashes
- Improve lighting techniques for vibrant, professional-looking images
- Participate in an open water photography dive
- Learn digital workflow skills including photo organization, optimization, storage, printing, and sharing
- Discover tips for editing and showcasing your underwater images
Level Two includes a classroom session, open water dive, and digital workflow workshop.

Note: You will need to complete the e-Learning prior to attending the course. If you don't own an underwater digital camera, Y-kiki Divers will provide one for you for use for the level 1 portion of the class. You will need to provide your own camera or rent one for the level 2 portion of the course.
